The southern region of
Puglia provides the most recent location for art holidays
in Italy. At the heart of Puglia lies the Valle
D’Itria, layered with olive groves and
vineyards interspersed with ancient palm trees and
trulli and edged by hill towns whose domed silhouettes
rise softly on the horizons. Situated between the
Ionic and Adriatic seas, it is but a few kilometres
drive from some of the most unspoiled sandy beaches
in the mediterranean Puglia has long been a
favourite destination with Italian holidaymakers so
needless to say good food and wine as integral
a part of local life as the sunshine.
At the heart of the valley lies 'Il Portico', a converted
farm whose trulli and lamie, nestled in an olive grove,
provide the most tranquil and picturesque of accommodation for our course. Our tutor Jacqueline Power, a professional
painter and experienced teacher, has been painting and
teaching in Puglia since 1991. Her knowledge of the
area adds a true appreciation of the very essence
of mediterranean Italy to her courses. The art holidays
are open to all levels and a relaxed, friendly approach
helps participants to channel their artistic expression
through a variety of media, technique and subject
matter.
The aim of our painting holidays is to accompany a
small group of participants on a journey through this
relatively unknown terrain and assist them in recollecting
the experience visually while allowing each participant
to find the right balance of activity and relaxation
for them. Non-painting companions are welcome. |
